The area sits at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level and enjoys a warm and humid climate year-round, making it the perfect setting to explore and discover the major attractions of the Peruvian Amazon.

During this 2-day adventure, you will have the chance to visit several beautiful sites, with the main highlight being Collpa Chuncho, a place where every morning large groups of Macaws, parrots, and parakeets gather, offering a spectacular display of color and sound. You will also be able to observe other wildlife, such as monkeys, capybaras, and caimans.

This trip includes boat rides along the Tambopata River, guided jungle walks, accommodation in an eco-lodge, and birdwatching at sunrise. It is a short but intense experience, perfect for nature lovers seeking adventure in the heart of the Amazon.

ITINERARY

Itinerary – Collpa Chuncho Macaws Tour | 2 Days

DAY 1: Puerto Maldonado – Sunset – Nighttime Caiman Tour

Pickup from your hotel and transfer to the tour starting point.
2-hour drive to the Tambopata River, enjoying the lush Amazonian landscapes along the way.
Board a boat for a 20-minute ride to the lodge, spotting exotic wildlife such as capybaras and shorebirds along the riverbanks.
Arrival at the lodge, followed by lunch.
Guided forest walk, observing monkeys and other Amazonian species.
Canopy tower climb to enjoy panoramic views of the Amazon River and a breathtaking sunset.
Nighttime walk along the river to observe white caimans and other nocturnal animals.

DAY 2: Chuncho Clay Lick & Bird Watching

Early wake-up to visit the Chuncho Clay Lick before sunrise.
Observe thousands of Macaws, parrots, and parakeets feeding on the clay, a spectacular natural show of colors and sounds.
Guided hike back to the lodge, enjoying the surrounding flora and fauna.
Lunch at the lodge.
Optional boat ride along the river for bird watching, spotting species such as hoatzins, toucans, and herons.
Return transfer to Puerto Maldonado around 4:00 pm, concluding the tour.

The Salkantay Trek with Marvelous couldn't have been better thanks to our incredible guide, Daniel. Honestly, I've never had such a great guide. Daniel is so warm, cheerful, and energetic. He wasn't just a guide, but part of our trekking family—many guides could learn something from him! Aside from that, our group was very personable, young, and motivated. The private cooks traveling with us prepared amazing food, and there was always enough of it. I've never eaten so well on a trek. Only in the last few days, when the cooks left and provided us with food at the restaurant, did the quality of the food really suffer compared to before. The accommodations were good, the sleeping bags provided were sufficient, and Daniel, our guide, tailored the route to our group's needs so everyone was satisfied.
