Itinerary of the ATV Tour to Moray and Salt Mines in the Sacred Valley

1. Pickup from your hotel in Cusco

Our service begins with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. Aboard our tourist vehicle, we will depart for the community of Cruzpata, located on the road to Chinchero, where our base of operations is located.

2. Introductory and practical briefing

Upon arrival, you will receive technical and safety training on the proper handling of ATVs. You will have a brief practice session to familiarize yourself with the vehicle before starting the tour.

3. Start of the ATV adventure

We begin our journey on rural roads surrounded by impressive Andean landscapes. The route will take us through agricultural fields, small communities, and panoramic views of snow-capped mountains.

4. Visit to the Moray Archaeological Complex

We arrive in Moray, an Inca agricultural center made up of circular terraces that served as a laboratory for adapting crops to different altitudes. You will have time to explore, take photos, and learn about its history with our guide.

5. Visit to the Maras Salt Mines

We continue to the Maras Salt Mines, a surreal landscape of more than 3,000 staggered salt pools on the side of a mountain. You’ll learn about the salt extraction process that has been maintained since pre-Inca times.

6. Return to Cruzpata on ATVs

After the visit, we’ll ride our ATVs back to the base in Cruzpata, once again enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings.

7. Return to Cusco

We’ll take our vehicle back to Cusco, ending the experience at approximately 1:00 p.m. (morning shift) or 6:30 p.m. (afternoon shift), dropping you off near the Plaza de Armas or at your hotel.

1. Original ID or passport:

• Carry it with you at all times. This is required to verify your identity at entry controls and, in some cases, to purchase or validate your tourist ticket.

2. Appropriate clothing for outdoor adventures:

• Top: Breathable long-sleeved shirt, a waterproof or windproof jacket (ideal if it’s windy or drizzling).
• Bottom: Long pants made of durable fabric (trekking or sports pants). Avoid tight-fitting jeans or loose pants that can get caught.
• During the dry season (April–October): Light clothing with sun protection.
• During the rainy season (November–March): Add a waterproof layer or rain poncho.

3. Sturdy and comfortable footwear

• Closed trekking shoes or sneakers with good traction.
• Sandals and open-toed shoes are not permitted for safety reasons while riding the ATV.

4. Gloves and additional personal protection (optional)

• Although basic gloves are provided, you may bring your own cycling or motocross gloves for added comfort.
• It is also recommended to wear a scarf or cloth mask to protect your face from dust.

5. Sun and Weather Protection

8. Cash in Peruvian soles

9. Health and Physical Conditions

• This tour is not recommended for people with:

10. Altitude Acclimatization

• The tour operates between 3,200 and 3,500 meters above sea level.
• We recommend arriving in Cusco at least one day in advance to acclimatize.
• Avoid alcoholic beverages the night before and stay well hydrated.

1. Do I need previous experience to ride an ATV?

No, no previous experience is required. Before starting the tour, you will receive technical instruction and a hands-on session to familiarize yourself with the vehicle. The tour is designed for beginners and is operated at a moderate speed with a support guide.

2. What is the minimum age to participate?

The minimum age to ride an ATV is 16 years old with parental permission (if the individual is a minor). Companions must be at least 12 years old. Children under this age cannot participate for safety reasons.

3. Can I ride as a passenger if I don’t want to drive?

Yes, you can ride as a companion on a double (shared) ATV. You just need to select this option when booking.

4. How difficult is the route? Is it dangerous?

The route has a moderate level of difficulty and is suitable for travelers of all ages. The experience unfolds along unpaved rural paths, completely free of traffic, and surrounded by breathtaking Andean landscapes. Throughout the journey, safety is prioritized: by following the instructions of your professional guide and wearing the necessary protective equipment, you can enjoy the tour comfortably and with confidence.

5. What entrance fees do I need to pay separately?

Moray: Requires a Partial or General Tourist Ticket (also valid for other archaeological sites in Cusco).

Maras Salt Mines: Separate entrance fee of S/10.00 per person (cash only).

6. What if I’ve never been above 3,000 meters above sea level?

If this is your first time at altitude, we recommend arriving in Cusco at least a day early to acclimatize. It’s also important to stay hydrated and avoid heavy meals or alcohol before the tour.

7. What happens if it rains on the day of the tour?

The tour operates even in light drizzle, as we provide rain jackets and the terrain remains passable. In the event of heavy rain or dangerous conditions, the company may reschedule or cancel the tour with prior notice for safety reasons.

8. Can I bring my camera or cell phone on the tour?

Yes, but we recommend carrying them in a waterproof or dustproof case. There will be ideal breaks for photos, especially at Moray and Maras.

9. How many people are in a group?

We work with small groups of 8 to 12 people per guide to ensure personalized attention and increased safety. We also offer private tours if you prefer.

10. Is insurance included in the tour?

The tour includes basic assistance and a first aid kit, but does not include personal accident insurance. Travel or health insurance that covers adventure activities is recommended.
