Rainbow Mountain Itinerary

1. Hotel Pickup – Cusco

Your adventure begins early. Our team will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco’s historic center between 3:30 and 4:00 am. We depart south of the valley, heading for the town of Cusipata, one of the most comfortable routes to Rainbow Mountain.

2. Breakfast in Cusipata

After approximately two hours of travel, we arrive in Cusipata. Here you will enjoy an energetic Andean breakfast with local options to recharge your batteries before beginning the hike to Vinicunca.

3. Hike to Rainbow Mountain

From Cusipata, we will take a shuttle to the community of Chillihuani, the starting point of the trek. The hike is 7 km round trip, at over 4,600 meters above sea level, and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of moderate ascent. During the hike, you will be able to observe llamas, alpacas, and high Andean landscapes.

4. Arrival at Vinicunca – Rainbow Mountain Viewpoint

Upon reaching the main viewpoint, you will have enough time to enjoy the impressive panoramic views of Rainbow Mountain, known for its natural bands of red, green, yellow, and violet hues. Take the opportunity to take photos and experience a unique experience in the Andes.

5. Return to Cusipata and Lunch

The Salkantay Trek with Marvelous couldn't have been better thanks to our incredible guide, Daniel. Honestly, I've never had such a great guide. Daniel is so warm, cheerful, and energetic. He wasn't just a guide, but part of our trekking family—many guides could learn something from him! Aside from that, our group was very personable, young, and motivated. The private cooks traveling with us prepared amazing food, and there was always enough of it. I've never eaten so well on a trek. Only in the last few days, when the cooks left and provided us with food at the restaurant, did the quality of the food really suffer compared to before.
